Titus Karanja

Non-Executive Director & Chair of the Board

Mr. Karanja was appointed as chairman to the board on 29th August 2023. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Karanja chaired the Board Audit and Risk Committee (BARC) from December 2017. He is the Chief Executive Officer at Fintech Frontiers Ltd, a digital financial services advisory company. Titus is also the Co-Founder of the Fintech Institute, a digital finance knowledge center. In this role, Titus is an advisor to digital finance innovators, banks, Saccos and microfinance companies as well as various regulators in sub-Saharan Africa. Mr. Karanja has 22 years’ experience in investment and commercial banking having previously worked as Managing Director at Sidian Bank. He also worked as the Director of Co-operatives Banking at Co-operative Bank of Kenya and Head of African Alliance Securities in Kenya. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Finance from the University of Nairobi. He is a qualified accountant under the ACCA (England and Wales) and holds a Diploma in Computer Science from the Institute of Data Processing Management (IDPM).

Dr. Shibutse is a highly experienced Finance and Business Services Executive with more than 19 years of hands-on experience in strategic planning, business unit development, project management, and business re-engineering strategies. He has a B. Arts (Economics) degree from the University of Nairobi, MBA from ESAMI, and DBA (Finance) from USIU-Africa. He is also a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Public Secretary, and a member of ICPAK and ICPSK. He previously worked for and held various management positions in NIC Bank, CfC Stanbic Bank, Equatorial Commercial Bank, Mwalimu National Sacco, and was involved in the setup of two pan African fundraising organizations, Duis Group and Terigi. In December 2019, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Real People Kenya Ltd.

Mr. Menya is a non-executive director and the Chief Commercial Officer. He holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from Moi University and Diploma in banking. He is also a Chartered Marketer with a post graduate Diploma in Professional marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, (CIM)UK. He has 19 years of leadership and Commercial financial services experience in both the Microfinance and Sacco sector. Before joining Real People Kenya Limited, Francis worked at Community Aid International as the Program Manager, Opportunity Kenya as Head of Operations and Wedco Enterprise Development Limited as a branch manager.

Simon joined Real People Kenya Limited in February 2023 as a Legal Assistant. He is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with over 5 years of experience as an in-house legal counsel. Prior to joining Real People Kenya Limited, Simon worked as an Associate Advocate at MMC Asafo (formerly MMC Africa Law) where he gained valuable experience in dispute resolution, banking, finance, corporate, commercial and property law. Simon holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Moi University School of Law and a Post-Graduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law. He has also completed several certifications in areas such as corporate finance, data protection, compliance, risk management, and cybersecurity. He is a member of the Law Society of Kenya, and he is currently pursuing certification as a Certified Secretary.

Sophia joined Real People Kenya Limited in February 2023 as the ICT Manager. She has 10+ years’ experience in ICT and Operations Management in the Microfinance sector. Prior to joining Real People Kenya Limited, she worked with Opportunity International-Kenya as a Head of Operations having grown through various roles of expertise. She has a wealth of experience in systems information management, system operations reports, business analysis, problem solving, IT strategies, among others. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Information Technology from Kenya Methodist University, and a Graduate Diploma in Management of Information Systems (IMIS-UK) from Strathmore University, and a certification in ITIL v3.

She holds over nine years’ experience in accounting and auditing. Before joining Real people Kenya limited, she worked at Mugo and Company as an auditor and Turea limited as a senior accountant.
